Indolence Changeante
Principalement peintes in situ, ces images captent le théâtre langoureux des humains et des animaux mis en scène contre la lumière subtilement changeante de la côte atlantique. Ils s'inscrivent dans une longue tradition de peintures faites de bords de mer, dont la dualité terre et mer, et la luminescence, ont séduit tant d'artistes. Ce sont des représentations subtiles du loisir ; de l'après-midi éternel - le galop trébuchant des chevaux offerts pour les promenades d'agrément, la posture paresseuse et insouciante des palefreniers et l'étoffe emmitouflée des femmes. Ce sont des peintures de l'indolence du repos brisé par la mer béante.
À propos de Chris Anthem
Chris Anthem est un artiste britannique vivant en Mauritanie. Il a des liens étroits avec le Liban et l'Afrique de l'Est. En plus d'un programme d'expositions complet au Royaume-Uni et au Moyen-Orient, ses autres projets récents incluent la peinture de robes pour Basil Soda Haute Couture. Il a étudié les beaux-arts à Liverpool puis à Slade School of Fine Art de Londres. Lorsqu'il ne peint pas à la plage, il travaille depuis son atelier à Nouakchott.

Changeable Indolence
Predominantly painted in situ, these pictures capture the languorous theatre of humans and animals staged against the subtlety changing light of the Atlantic coast. They follow in a long tradition of paintings made of the seaside, whose duality of land and sea, and luminescence, has attracted so many artists. They are subtle representations of leisure; of the eternal afternoon - the stumbling canter of horses offered for pleasure rides, the lazy insouciant posture of the grooms and the bundled fabric of the women. They are paintings of the indolence of repose broken by the yawning sea.
About Chris Anthem
Chris Anthem is a British artist living in Mauritania. He has strong links to Lebanon and East Africa. As well as a full exhibition schedule in the UK and Middle East, his other recent projects have included painting dresses for Basil Soda Haute Couture. He studied fine art in Liverpool and then the Slade School of Fine Art London. When not painting at the beach he works from his studio in Nouakchott.
